About Birthday Express
Birthday Express is a subsidiary of BuySeasons, Inc. which in turn is owned by the Liberty Interactive Corporation. Rick Barton currently serves as CEO of the company, which is headquartered in New Berlin, Wisconsin, United States, from a 472,000 sq. ft. facility. They also have offices in Bothell, Washington.
Birthday Express was founded in 1994 by Mike and Jan Jewell, using their own personal investment money. In the first couple of years they operated as a mail order business model, but soon launched a website as the internet was taking off. BirthdayExpress.com is now one of the key drivers of sales.
Over the next few years they were able to raise millions in funding and in 2004 went public on the NASDAQ, but when Liberty Media purchased them in 2008 the company was taken private again.
Birthday Express Sells
At this moment in time, Birthday Express has 8 important categories, including tableware, decorations, games & activities, toys, stand ups, sweets, dress-ups and paw patrols, all of which can be pretty much deemed as essential party items. Most of the products that they sell have been given life by their in-house team of designers, but they also sell products made by other popular companies. The store currently offers hundreds of different birthday party themes to choose from, which means parents can always find something unique for their child and birthday guests.
What sets the company apart from the competition is the fact that they also offer customized party products, which means that anyone who has an idea can get it custom made and shipped to their home. For most people this will simply amount to getting their child's name printed on to the decorations, but there's nothing stopping you being more creative.
Together with this, the company also offers planning services for the perfect party, which include promotions such as ‘Party in a box’, ‘Do it yourself’ followed by ‘Express Value Packs’.
Birthday Express offers an intuitive sales platform, which customers can easily use in order to purchase items. At this moment in time, the company only ships to the United States, Australia and Canada, but chances are that the number of countries will increase in the future. Like most online merchants, the payment has to be made prior to the delivery of the product, and users are given two main options: to pay via a credit card, or PayPal, both of which can satisfy the needs of just about anyone. It is also worth pointing out that Birthday Express does not accept gift cards, personal checks or cash- which means that all payments will need to be made online.
Shipping varies on which method has been chosen by the customer. The variants available at this moment are standard, express and premium delivery. The standard method usually takes around 7-9 days, which is significantly slower when compared to the express delivery method, which takes two days. Customers also have the possibility to choose premium delivery, which means that the products ordered will be shipped the next day.
All orders over the value of $75 are shipped for free, though Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Island orders will still incur a $10 surcharge.
Birthday Express operate a 14 day returns policy, meaning you can return unused items within 14 days after delivery to obtain a refund or store credit. Returns are initiated online and you will be given the options to print a prepaid UPS return label. The cost of this will be taken out of your refund unless you received your order in error or in a damaged condition.
Failure to meet these requirements may cause your refund to be rejected or subject to a restocking fee. Personalized items are excluded from returns unless there are quality issues.
