The business was founded by Jay S. Walker in 1997 and the website first went live in 1998. At first users were treated with a “Name Your Own Price” system that allowed them to choose their maximum price, the general location, and the class of service, but the specific details were not revealed until after the order was complete.
Today there is now an "Express Deals" model that allows customers to choose a set package price for their destination, though the exact details are still not revealed until after the order is complete.
Priceline is considered a gamble.
