As its name suggests, Dollywood is owned by famous entertainer Dolly Parton along with Herschend Family Entertainment. The famous park, which opened back in 1961, is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee along the beautiful Smoky Mountains.
When the park initially opened, it certainly wasn't anything like it was today. It was simply a small tourist attraction back in the early 1960s. It consisted of a steam train named the “Rebel Railroad”, a saloon, blacksmith shop, and a general store. In later years, the attraction was changed to Silver Dollar City.
It wasn't until 1986 that Dolly Parton got involved in the venture, thanks in large part to the fact that she grew up in the surrounding area. That same year, the park was renamed Dollywood before it reopened.
