David Hirschfeld founded Buckle (then Mills Clothing) as a single men's clothing store in 1948, in Kearney, where the company is still headquartered today. In 1965 he passed on the business to his son and current Chairman Dan, who rebranded the store as Buckle. By 1967 he had a second store and over the years opened more and more outlets.
In 1977 Buckle expanded in to women's clothing and in 1992 it went public on the NASDAQ before moving to the NYSE in 1997.
